Empty Nesters

Our round-the-country RV adventure

Shakedown - Foxboro, MA and Hampton Falls, NH

10 September 2021

After leaving our driveway camping, our first stops were a few campgrounds around Boston, to shake down the RV and see some friends before we set out to Acadia, our first national park.

We started at Normandy Farms, a glamping park in Foxboro. While there, we hosted our niece and nephew, Eowyn and Adric.

Eowyn and Ken made pizza, but halfway through, the oven went on the fritz so we had to finish the last one in convection mode on the microwave.

We also hosted our closest friends, the SOHOTs, and Jerusha’s sister Becca. Looking back, it seems like all we did was eat!

We dropped by to see Jerusha’s college friends, Lisa and John.

Our son Duncan was able to get away from Northeastern for an evening.

Sue and Clint joined us for a day (Clint helped Ken get the washing machine working) and Ken saw Christine, a friend from his time working in Boston.

Then it was time to pack up and head north. After closing up the RV, we played a quick game of disc golf at the park with our dog, Lego, in tow.

Next, we were off to a park just south of Portsmouth, NH, where we continued the whirlwind friend visiting. Jerusha visited her friend and ex-colleague Jennifer while Ken took Lego for a long walk in a park in Portsmouth.

We had a fantastic time at a mini reunion with some of Ken’s friends from MIT.

And a great visit with Jason (Jerusha’s friend from BU) and his wife Rachel.

Finally, we finished with a stay at a friend from Ken’s work, Tom and his wife René at their beautiful home in Kittery, Maine. Tom had space for an RV on his property; our RV was the first to try it. It was a bit of a squeeze to get our big rig into their driveway, but Ken managed with only a few tire tracks on the lawn.

After really interesting conversation over dinner on the water, we set off for Acadia the next morning.
